Richardson, Texas - The Florida International University men's soccer team fell to 0-2-0 on the season with a 3-0 loss to No. 11 California in the opening round of the SMU Radisson Invitational at UT-Dallas Stadium Field on Friday evening. It was Cal's first win of the season, as the Golden Bears improved to 1-1-1.Â
Cal got on the board in the 39th minute, as freshman Imaan Kerchgani fed the ball to sophomore forward Jacob Wilson for the game-winner. Senior defender Steve Purdy headed in freshman Hector Jimenez's free kick to extend the Golden Bears' lead to 2-0 in the 75th minute. Senior forward Matt Holtrust closed scoring with a third goal for Cal.Â
The Golden Panthers return to the pitch at the SMU Radisson Invitational on Saturday, taking on Cincinnati at 6 p.m. EST. Hosts SMU defeated Cincinnati, 6-0, in Friday's second match of the Invitational.
