FIU's men's soccer team lost 3-1 against Navy Sunday afternoon at University Park.
FIU nearly duplicated Friday night's hot start when Juan Guerra (Caracas, Venezuela) took a pass from Levi Coleman (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and fired a shot, but the Midshipmen keeper, Thomas Jenkins, came up with a great save to keep the Golden Panthers off the board.
At the 7:37 mark, play was delayed due to inclement weather.
After a delay of over an hour, it didn't take too long for Navy to strike first as in the 16th minute Chris Schneider took a pass off a short corner kick by Mark Garcia and fired from just outside the penalty area for the first score of the match.
The Golden Panthers would equalize in the 29th minute when Steven Jair Cabas (Miami, Fla.) sent a perfect cross to Levi Coleman who was deep in the penalty area and headed the ball in for his first goal of the season.
In the 53rd minute, Coleman nearly headed another one in, this time off the pass from Juan Guerra who sent a cross from the right side all the way to the other side of the box where Coleman sent a dangerous shot that sailed just wide.
Immediately following the FIU threat, Navy countered as Andrew Garcia took control of the ball, got behind the FIU defense and beat Golden Panther keeper Michael Anderson (Weston, Fla.) to retake the lead.
FIU nearly tied the score when Juan Guerra sent a corner kick into the penalty area and found Raoul Voss (Mulheim, Germany) who headed the ball but was turned away by the Midshipmen keeper.
Navy would put away the Golden Panthers when Andrew Garcia took a low shot from outside the penalty area and found the back of the net to make the score 3-1
