FIU Men's Soccer Falls to Tulsa 3-0 In Conference USA Opener

Tulsa scored two first half goals and FIU wasn't able to battle back as the Golden Hurricane bested the Golden Panthers 3-0 in both squads' Conference USA opener. The defending C-USA champions kept the pressure on FIU all match long as they outshot the Golden Panthers 14-7.

Tulsa took the lead in the 23rd minute on a Austin Neil's second goal of the season. The goal came on a header after Tulsa's Kilian Poeschk set Neil up with a header of his own.

The Golden Hurricane doubled its lead in the 38th minute as Neil struck again, this time on a goal set up by a cross from Hunter Christiansen.

In the second half, FIU had an opportunity when Sebastian Frings fired on goal but was turned away. Tulsa took advantage as they countered with an attack of their own and 57 seconds later added to their lead on a goal in the 55th minute by Poeschk, making the score 3-0.

Tulsa's defense kept FIU off the scoreboard the rest of the way to seal the 3-0 victory. With the loss FIU falls to 3-5, and 0-1 in Conference USA action. Tulsa is now 5-3-1 and 1-0 in conference.

FIU continues conference play this weekend as they host Marshall on Saturday, October 3 at 7 p.m.
