UAB's Kofi Gyawu's hat trick led the Blazers as the FIU men's soccer team fell to No. 25 UAB 7-1, Saturday night in Birmingham. The Golden Panthers (3-8-0; 0-4-0 C-USA) could not slow down the Blazers (8-2-1; 2-0-1) as the UAB offense poured in 25 shots to FIU's 11.
The Blazers scored early and often, netting five goals in the first half. UAB's first goal came in the 13th minute, that off the foot of Two-Boys Gumede. 25 minutes later, UAB would go on a scoring frenzy, scoring four goals in six minutes of play. The UAB offense was relentless in the opening stanza, as the Blazers took 17 first half shots to FIU's one.
UAB didn't let up in the second half, scoring their sixth goal in the 50th minute and again in the 78th. FIU's lone bright spot came right after Gyawu's third goal as freshman Sebastian Frings scored his seventh goal of the season.
The Golden Panthers will be back in action this coming Monday at 7 p.m. when they host the Dolphins of Jacksonville University.
