RICHMOND, Va. - The No. 27-ranked FIU women's tennis team was defeated by No. 36-ranked VCU Rams, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Va.
Originally scheduled for February 5, the Golden Panthers road trip was put on hold because of snow storms that blanked the east coast of the United States.
FIU picked up its lone win on the afternoon at the No. 2 singles when VCU's Kateryna Yergina retired because of injury, giving Christine Serendi the victory.
In doubles play, the team of Liset Brito and Priscilla Castillo raised their record to 2-1 as a tandem when they defeated Ana Bara and Josefin Hjertquist at the No. 1 spot, 8-2.
FIU will return to the courts Saturday, Feb. 13 when it takes on William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
