Second-Half Run Leads to FIU Loss, 77-67

JONESBORO, Ark. (Feb. 18, 2012) --- With the game tied at 46-46 and 14:48 left in the game, Arkansas State went on a 15-4 run to over a span of four minutes. The run gave the Red Wolves (12-17, 6-8 SBC) a double-digit lead which they would never relinquish, as the Panthers (7-19, 4-10 SBC) dropped a 77-67 decision to Arkansas State on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Convocation Center in Jonesboro, Ark.

FIU, which finished the night shooting 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the floor and 7-of-21 from 3-point range (33.3 percent), was led by sophomore Phil Taylor, who scored 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting (5-of-7 from beyond the arc). Taylor made a game-high five treys before leaving the game due to his second technical foul of the contests at the 15:27 mark of the second half. Sophomore Dominique Ferguson recorded the game's only double-double, posting 14 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Senior DeJuan Wright also reached double-figures in scoring, pouring in 13 points, while recording two steals and three assists.

Arkansas State shot 53.2 percent from the field (25-of 47) and 45.5 percent from downtown (10-of-22). The Red Wolves had a pair of 20-point scorers with Marcus Hooten (28 points) and Trey Finn (20 points).

The Panthers entered halftime down 36-27. The Red Wolves shot 60.0 percent from the floor (15-of-25), including 6-of-13 (46.2 percent) from beyond the arc. FIU converted 48.0 percent of its shots (12-of-25) and were led Allen, who had nine points.  ASU's Hooten posted 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting (3-of-5 from 3-point range).

For the game, FIU out-rebounded ASU, 30-28, while the Red Wolves forced 14 turnovers resulting in 16 Arkansas State points.

From the line, ASU attempted 18 more free-throws than FIU, converting 17-of-29, while the Panthers went 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.

The loss extends FIU's current losing streak to four games . 

FIU will host the Troy Trojans on Thursday, Feb. 23. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET. Prior to the men's contest, the women's team with face the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. ET.
