MIAMI, Fla. (Oct. 26, 2013) – Five field goals by Louisiana Tech's Kyle Fischer proved to be too much to overcome as the FIU football team (1-6, 1-2 C-USA) fell to the Bulldogs (3-5, 2-2 C-USA), 23-7, on Saturday night at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium.

Redshirt junior Jake Medlock finished the night throwing for 128 yards on 11-of-26 passing, including one touchdown. Jonnu Smith led all receivers with 54 yards on two catches, including FIU's touchdown in the second half.   

The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead with 9:01 left in the first quarter, following a 26-yard field goal by Fischer. The score capped off an 11-play, 56-yard drive which lasted 4:04. Fischer booted his second field goal of the first quarter with a 35-yard field goal with 49 seconds on the clock. The score resulted following a five-play, negative two-yard drive that lasted 1:43 to give LA Tech a 6-0 lead.

LA Tech extended its lead to 9-0 with Fischer's third field goal of the first half. The kick from 33 yards gave the Bulldogs a nine-point lead with 3:46 remaining.

FIU responded in the second half with a 38-yard touchdown pass from Medlock to Smith with 14:11 left in the third quarter. The one-play scoring drive took just 10 seconds and was set up following an interception of LA Tech quarterback's, Ryan Higgins, by Justin Halley. Halley finished the night with two picks.

The Bulldogs took a 12-7 lead with Fischer's fourth field goal of the game, converting a 30-yarder with 7:09 left in the third quarter. The score capped off a 12-play, 62-yard drive that lasted 4:57.  LA Tech extended its lead, 20-7, with 8:35 left in the game. A 39-yard touchdown pass from Higgins to Kenneth Dixon coupled with a successful two-point conversion, gave the Bulldogs a 13-point lead. LA Tech's drive lasted four plays for 51 yards in 1:50.

Fischer added his fifth field goal of the night (a 35 yarder) to give the Bulldogs a 23-7 lead with 4:20 left in the game.

LA Tech's Dixon finished the night with 128 yards on the ground on 23 carries. Higgins threw for 192 on 20-of-31 passing and was picked off three times.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Nov. 2, hosting the East Carolina Pirates. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium.
