EAST LANSING, Mich. (Aug. 31, 2014) – Coming off a 1-0 victory at No.19 Michigan on Friday, the FIU men's soccer team (1-1-0) dropped a 3-0 contest to the 10
th-ranked Michigan State Spartans on Sunday afternoon. FIU closes the road trip going 1-1 against the two Big Ten opponents heading into next Friday's matchup with Stetson.

Quentin Albrecht led the way for the Panthers, firing four shots, one on goal. The Spartans outshot the Panthers, 14-12, and also led in corner kicks, 5-3. There were five total cautions in the match, with FIU getting three yellow cards.
FIU fired off two shots within the first five minutes. The Spartans answered back with a shot on goal that junior keeper
Robin Spiegel made a save on. The Spartans kept the ball in FIU's defensive third, getting two corner kicks before eventually forcing a penalty kick in the ninth minute. Michigan State's Fatai Alashe successfully converted to put the Spartans on top of the Panthers, 1-0.
FIU came back immediately and put pressure on the Spartan defense. Albrecht had a shot deflected at the 11-minute mark, forcing a corner kick. Off the corner, junior
Daniel Gonzalez nearly found the back of the net, as his shot found the post, putting FIU inches away from tying the game up at one. Albrecht applied more pressure, firing a shot wide in the 14
th minute. Sophomore
Marvin Hezel got his head on a corner kick in the 19
th minute, but it went high of the goal.
The Spartans got goal number two in the 25
th minute, as Zach Carroll scored on a corner kick from Jason Stacy to put Michigan State up 2-0.
The Panthers got a shot off early in the second half, but were held quiet for the remainder. Michigan State's Adam Montague found the left side netting in the 65
th minute to give the Spartans a three-goal lead.
FIU is back in action this Friday, hosting Stetson at the FIU Soccer Stadium. First touch will take place after the women's game, which is set to begin at 5 p.m.
