MIAMI (Nov. 7, 2015) – The FIU swimming and diving team (5-1) fell to the No. 39-ranked Illinois Fighting Illini, 197-174, on Saturday afternoon at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
Entering the second-day of the two-day event, the Panthers held a 100-85 lead over the Fighting Illini but a 112-74 result on Saturday handed FIU its first home loss in 13-straight dual matches and snapped a 16-match win-streak.
"I can't say I'm not disappointed in the outcome today," Head Coach
Randy Horner said. "We had an excellent chance to close out the meet, but couldn't win the close races. I give Illinois credit for making a great comeback, and I think this will make us tougher in the future."
Kyna Pereira picked up another victory over the weekend with a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a 10:24.58.
Rebecca Quesnel claimed first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive, posting a season- and C-USA-high 308.85 (3-meter) and a 291.97.
The Panthers will next participate in the Purdue Invite (Nov. 20-22) from Lafayette, Ind.
