MIAMI (November 8, 2015) – The FIU volleyball team (13-12, 7-7 in C-USA) drop a 3-1 match to North Texas (17-12, 9-5 in C-USA) on Senior Day (25-23, 23-25, 15-25, 23-25). On a day which FIU honored its seniors, the veterans led the whole way.
In the first set, the Panthers made a comeback to take a 1-0 lead with a 25-23 victory. FIU was led by seniors
Gloria Levorin and
Lucia Castro with four kills and five kills, respectively. The Panthers came out the gate aggressively. Levorin would finish the night with 15 kills; one shy of her career-high.
In the second set, North Texas took a tight 25-23 victory to tie the match at 1-1. The set was once again led by Levorin and Castro. Castro registered six digs in the set, reaching the 1000-mark in her career. She would finish the match with 16 kills and 15 digs (her 13
th double-double of the year). Senior
Adriana McLamb also got into the action, leading the Panthers with seven digs in the set. Mclamb would end the night with 17.
FIU struggled in the third set dropping a 25-15 loss. The Panthers hit a game-low .111 hitting percentage. The Mean Green hit a whopping .500 and was too much for FIU. North Texas also out-dug FIU 13-5 in the set.
North Texas took the fourth set to clinch the match with a 25-23 victory. The close battle was led exclusively by junior
Katie Hogan with five kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Hogan would also add three digs in the set. Hogan finished the afternoon with a .417 hitting percentage, making her the most efficient player for FIU.
FIU finished their 2015 home-stand with a record of 8-7. The Panthers are still fighting for a spot in the 2015 C-USA Conference Championship Tournament in two weeks. Although, favorites to make it, FIU will need to show up against LA Tech and Charlotte, both of whom they will face this week
