Kickoff from Memorial Stadium is set for 8 p.m. with the game being broadcast on the Big Ten Network (BTN). Chris Denari (play-by-play) and Chuck Long (color analyst) will call the action. FIU opened the season with a road victory on Thursday night. The win marked the first season-opening win since 2011 and first road win to start the season since 2004. A year ago, FIU's defense was one of the best in the nation (No. 35) and that trend carried over into the season opener as the Panthers held the two-time defending American Athletic Conference (AAC) champions to 295 total yards and just 46 yards on the ground.

Offensively, the Panthers moved the ball through the air (260 yards) and on the ground (131), running a total of 69 plays. Averaging 4.2 yards-per-carry, three different Panthers ran for 20-or-more yards in the game. Sophomore Alex Gardner led all running back with 75 yards on 15 carries, including one touchdown. The Jacksonville, Fla., native scored on a seven-yard scamper to pull FIU within five (14-9) in the third quarter. Freshman Anthony Jones ran the ball just once in the second half but it was electric as the first-year Panther gained 26 yards on his first collegiate carry.

Sophomore Alex McGough connected on 29-of-38 passes for a career-best 76.3 percent completion percentage on Thursday. The Tampa,, Fla., native recorded a career-best 260 yards through the air, while recording his first touchdown of the season (a three-yard completion to senior Ya'Keem Griner). Griner finished the night with four catches for 55 yards, including a career-long 47-yard catch in the fourth quarter. Gardner also added a career-high 74 yards receiving, registering five catches, including a career-long 27-yarder. Sophomore Thomas Owens grabbed a career-high 11 catches in his first-career start. The Boynton Beach, Fla., product was one catch shy of tying the school record for receptions in a game (12 by T.Y. Hilton at Akron – Oct. 8, 2011).

On the defensive side of the ball, FIU was led by linebackers Treyvon Williams and Anthony Wint. Williams recorded a career-high 11 tackles, including a career-best 1.5 tackles for loss. Wint also set a career-high in tackles (10) and tackles for loss (1.0). Senior Richard Leonard tied a career-high in tackles (10), while registering one pass breakup versus the Knights. Senior Darrian Dyson notched his first-career blocked kick, getting a paw on UCF's game-winning field goal attempt with 39 second left in the game. Dyson recorded four tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss in the contest.

The Panthers enter Saturday's game looking to start 2-0 for the first time since 2011. In the team's first trip to Bloomington, FIU will look to pick up its first win over a Big Ten School (0-8). Head Coach Ron Turner is no stranger to the Hoosiers, owning a 5-3 record versus Indiana.
