MIAMI (October 29, 2016) – The FIU men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five matches on Saturday night when it dominated Old Dominion and handed the Monarchs a 4-1 loss at the ODU Soccer Complex in Norfolk, Virginia. The win improves the Panthers to 7-6-2 on the year and 4-2-1 in Conference USA play. ODU drops to 4-7-2 overall and 1-4-1 in C-USA.
FIU's unbeaten streak is its longest such stretch since winning seven-straight from Sept. 3 through Sept. 29, 2015.
Joris Ahlinvi gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 34
th minute from 18 yards out off an assist from
Ismael Longo, a lead that FIU would take into the locker room at the break. Ahlinvi's goal was his third of the season.
After each team recorded six shots apiece in the first 45 minutes, the Monarchs gained the upper hand in the second half outshooting the Panthers 15-7.
FIU broke the game open with two goals in just over a three-minute stretch starting with
Juan Benedetty's first goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 72
nd minute. Then in the 75
th minute,
Luis Betancur connected on his third of the year on a header off an assist from
Jamar Campion-Hinds.
After ODU finally got on the board in the 75
th minute by way of a penalty kick, Campion-Hinds put the icing on the cake with his second goal of the season to give the Panthers a three-goal advantage. It was Campion-Hinds' fifth multi-point game of his career, doing it last against the Monarchs on Nov. 11, 2015.

Daniel Gagliardi posted his third-straight win in goal playing in relief of senior net minder
Arthur Clapot who remains sidelined due to an injury. Gagliardi finished the night with nine saves in the win.
The Panthers close out the regular season at home on Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. when they welcome UAB to the FIU Soccer Stadium. Prior to the match, FIU will honor its senior class during Senior Night festivities.
