FIU Falls to WKU, 49-21

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Nov. 5, 2016) -- WKU scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter and rolled to a 49-21 win over FIU Saturday night at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
 
The Hilltoppers led 14-7 at the start of the second quarter before scoring 21 points to finish the first half.
WKU got a pair of rushing touchdowns in the first quarter. Quinton Baker had a 10-yard run and Anthony Wales punched it in from one yard out to stake the Hilltoppers to a 14-0 lead.
 
FIU came back on the strength of quarterback Maurice Alexander's legs. Alexander took off on a 34-yard scramble to the WKU 2. On the next play, Alexander scored on a 2-yard touchdown run. The Panthers were within a touchdown of WKU at 14-7.
 
But that was as close as FIU would come to WKU.
 
Alexander was 14 of 23 for 129 yards through the air. The redshirt freshman quarterback rushed for 62 yards to lead FIU on the ground.
 
Freshman Darrius Scott led FIU in receiving with 56 yards.
 
Redshirt freshman quarterback Christian Alexander entered the game midway through the third quarter. Christian Alexander found Shug Oyegunle for an 11-yard touchdown and threw a 12-yard touchdown to Austin Maloney.
 
Christian Alexander completed 8 of 11 passes for 81 yards.
 
The Panthers have a bye next Saturday and return to action on Nov. 19 against Marshall at FIU Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
