No. 57 FIU Women’s Tennis Improves to 10-1 on Tuesday

MIAMI (March 8, 2016) – The FIU women's tennis team (No. 57 in the latest ITA rankings) improved to 10-1 on the year with a 7-0 victory over the Butler Bulldogs (1-13) on Tuesday afternoon.
 
The win gave the Panthers their third-straight at home and ninth-straight overall.  
 
FIU took an early 1-0 lead, claiming the doubles point as sophomore Nerma Caluk and senior Kaitlin Brozovich defeated Jordan Minnick and Michelle McFerran, 6-0, and senior Carlotta Orlando and redshirt freshman Andrea Lazaro downed Jocelyn Koester and Kailey Eaton, 6-0.
 
The Panthers swept all six singles matches for the 7-0 result. Lazaro gave FIU a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rachel Sutton. The win was the 11th-stragiht for Lazaro, who is a perfect 10-0 in dual matches this season. Orlando extended her winning streak to nine-straight, cruising past Eaton, 6-0, 6-0. Caluk clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over McFerran. The win marked the 22nd for the FIU sophomore, who has won nine-straight. Freshman Maryna Veksler added FIU's fifth point of the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Bailey Padgett. Junior Nina Nagode defeated Konstantina Adami, 6-2, 6-1, while Brozovich completed the shutout, downing Callie Schmit, 6-4, 6-2.
 
The 7-0 victory was fifth of the season for the Panthers and sixth shutout of an opponent overall.
 
FIU will host Conference USA foe UTEP on Friday, March 11. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
