Old Dominion used a big eighth inning to run-rule FIU 11-1 Sunday afternoon at the FIU ballpark. Conference USA has a 10-run rule after seven innings for conference games played on Sunday. The Monarchs needed eight innings to finish off the Panthers.
ODU (23-10, 6-6 Conference USA) swept the three-game series from FIU (15-19, 4-8 C-USA). ODU scored 33 runs in the three games. After scoring 11 runs Friday, FIU scored a total of three runs in the final two games of the series.
For the first seven innings Sunday it was a pitchers' duel. ODU starter Adam Bainbridge (2-1) and reliever Nick Hartman shut out FIU. Panthers relievers

Garrett Cave (2-3) allowed two first-inning runs.
But in the top of the eighth inning the wheels came off for FIU. ODU sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on just four hits. Two FIU errors and three walks issued by FIU pitching helped the Monarchs' cause.
FIU got its lone run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Panthers tried to avoid being run-ruled.
Eddie Silva singled and moved to second base on a wild pitch.
Nick Day drove in Silva with a single.
FIU had eight hits for the game but all of them were singles. Silva, Day and
Kolby Follis each had two hits to make up three-quarters of FIU's hits. ODU had just seven hits Sunday.
