RUSTON, La. — Louisiana Tech right-hander Cameron Linck struck out a career-high 10 batters to pitch the Bulldogs past FIU, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field in Ruston, La.
La. Tech (19-12, 7-7 Conference USA) evened the three-game series with FIU (17-20, 5-9 C-USA).
Linck (2-0), who was making just his second weekend start of the season, limited the Panthers to just five hits, including four singles, in a career-high 7 1/3 innings pitched. The lone extra base hit and the only run surrendered by Linck was a solo home run by
Irving Lopez in the top of the eighth inning.
FIU starter
Chris Mourelle (4-4) matched zeros with Linck until the fifth inning.
Taylor Love led off the fifth with a single and stole second base. Two outs later, Brent Diaz reached on an infield single. On the Diaz hit, Love never stopped running from second base to score the first run of the game.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the sixth on back-to-back solo home runs by Cody Daigle and Chance Lunceford.
Mourelle went 6 1/3 innings, allowed seven hits and five runs.
The series will be decided Sunday at 12 p.m. when left-hander
