Texeira Homer Negated by UAB Offense in @FIUSoftball 9-1 Loss

Game One Recap

BIRMINGHAM (April 16, 2016) --
The 11th home run of the season for FIU junior Stephanie Texeira (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) in the first inning was negated by a UAB offensive onslaught in a 9-1 loss in game two of a Conference USA doubleheader at Mary Bowers Field. UAB improves its record to 19-23 and a 9-5 C-USA mark. FIU slips to to 22-23, 7-10 in Conference USA.

Texeira smashed a homer over the center field wall in the first frame. Just a junior, Texiera is three shy of breaking the school record in career homeruns. She entered the weekend sitting fourth in the league with her 10 round-trippers.

The Panthers gave up five runs (all earned) off four hits in the bottom of the first, including a three run homer.

FIU starter Corinne Jenkins (Sarasota, Florida / Riverview HS) was chased from the game after two innings. Sophomore Rachel Dwyer (Tampa, Florida / Chamberlain HS / University of Virginia) relieved her in the third inning. Dwyer tamed the Blazers for 2.2 innings allowing only two hits total; however, the bottom of the fifth brought the conclusion of the game with a ground out RBI and a two-RBI single.

Jenkins took the loss, dropping her record to 5-8. She totaled two innings pitched and allowed six runs on six hits, three walks, with no strikeouts on the day.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow looking to salvage a win in the series Sunday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. EDT.
