FORT MYERS, Fla. (April 24) -- Freshman pitcher
Abby Summers (Weston, Missouri) tossed her fourth complete game of the season, and stymied FCGU hitters by allowing only five hits, in a 3-1 victory at the FGCU Softball Complex Sunday in non-conference softball action. The win gives FIU the series victory over the Eagles, improving their record in the series to 13-7 all-time. FIU improves to 25-24, while the Eagles are 24-25 this season. FIU is now 10-1 this season in Sunday contests.
After three scoreless innings, the Panthers scored the first run in the fourth frame. Junior first baseman
Stephanie Texeira (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) doubled for the first hit of the game for FIU, then came around to score one out later on an RBI single to right center from freshman
Lauren Williams (Tampa, Florida / Chamberlain HS) for the 1-0 lead.
The Panthers added two runs in the fifth on three hits and an FGCU error. Texeira had an RBI single in the frame, giving her a team-high 40 for the season.
The lone Eagles run came on an RBI groundout after two singles to lead off the sixth inning.
That was the lone mark during Summers' day. She allowed one walk and struck out five, one off her career high. She is the first FIU pitcher to get to 10 wins, now at 10-7.
FGCU pitcher Ashley Dobson took the loss. She allowed all three FIU runs in 5.1 innings on five hits and four walks. She also struck out five.

A.J. Belans set a new career high by drawing three walks in the game.
The Panthers will finish this 11-game road swing next weekend, in a return to Conference USA play at Marshall. The Saturday doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
