Missouri Hosts Second Tournament for FIU Golf

COLUMBIA, Missouri (October 1, 2017) -- FIU golf returns to a familiar location, as the Panthers are in Missouri to compete in the Ninth Annual Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri. As it has for the duration of the tournament, the players and team compete at the Club at Old Hawthorne, which is set up for par-72 and 6,204 yards. The tournament is 54 holes, with three days of a single, 18-hole round.

FIU finished third in last year's event, with an 11-over par score, just 1 strokes behind Mizzou for the title.

FIU goes off first on Monday morning with Mizzou and Kennesaw State, starting at 10 a.m. Eastern.

The teams in this year's Johnie Imes also include Bradley, East Tennessee State, FGCU, Illinois State, Arkansas-Little Rock, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Morgan State, North Texas, UM-Kansas City and Wichita State.

With just one tournament under their belts, the Panthers will send the same lineup, led by senior Katerina Krasova (Ricany, Czech Republic). She is the lone upperclassman in the lineup this week, with a pair of sophomores, Carolina Rotinger (Puebla, Mexico) and Diana Velez (Dorado, Puerto Rico) returning to the tee box. A pair of freshmen, Carolina Andrade (Bogota, Colombia) and Hannah Leiner (Pompano Beach, Florida) round out the golfers in the lineup. Those five golfers all finished within four strokes of one another in the opening tournament, hosted by Boston College. Redshirt sophomore Ana Rengifo (Bogota, Colombia) will play as an individual this week. She turned in FIU's lowest score of the first tournament, at 14-over par.

The event will have live results posted at Birdiefire.com for both days and all 54 holes.
