FIU Scores 270 Points to Lead by 31 After Day One of FIU Fall Classic

The Basics
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â FIU dominated the opening day of the FIU Fall Classic, scoring 270 of a possible 283 points at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center Friday. The classic concludes Saturday.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â In the classic format, teams are limited to nine total swimmers and two divers, with each swimmer allowed to swim no more than two individual events of their three. Each event swims an "A" and "B" race, with championship scoring (20 to 12 for "A" and 9 to 2 in the "B" race) for each. There is no qualifying, swimmers are assigned either the "A" or "B" race. The two divers are assigned an "A" or "B" program.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â FIU took the maximum of 80 relay points by winning both the 400 Medley (3:47.78) and the 200 Free relays (1:35.46) at the start and end of swimming portion of the schedule.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The Panthers finished first or second in every "A" and "B" individual race on the day.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â In the 3-meter springboard, senior Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) won the "B" diving program with a 264.35 score.
-       FIU winning individual results… Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada) – 4:24.80 in the 400 IM, Sara Gyertyanffy (Desenzano, Italy) – 56.28 in the 100 Fly, Taylor Grabenhorst (Orlando, Florida) – 1:04.78 in the 100 Back and Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana) – 55.90 in the 100 Back.

"Our goal this meet is to execute our races and compete," said FIU Head Coach Randy Horner. "I would say we achieved that goal. We raced well and the ladies are creating their team character. Coming back strong tomorrow is our next challenge."
