The Basics
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â FIU posted its fastest times of the season in the 200 Free Relay Aquatic Center, while senior Letizia Bertelli (Cremona, Italy) and junior Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana) posted NCAA B-Standard qualifying times in the 50 Free as part of day one of the 2017 Purdue Invitational at the Burke Aquatic Center Thursday.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The Panthers were second-fastest in the evening's first event, the 200 Free Relay, posting a season-best time of 1:30.45, which is less than a second from last season's best time, which was a provisional qualifier. Freshman Sara Gyertyanffy (Desenzano, Italy) swam first, with Ruele and Bertelli to follow. The relay was anchored by senior Ally Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio).
-       The 50 Free came in event seven, with the Panthers posting the second- (Bertelli – 22.47) and third-best (Ruele – 22.52) times in the event. Both came in below the 22.99 B-Standard threshold set by the NCAA. The two swimmers set B Standard times in the preliminaries in the morning session, at 22.75 and 22.78, respectively.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â In the 3-meter diving program, freshman Rachel Foord (Melbourne, Australia) and sophomore Brooke Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) both landed in the finals of the event. Foord finished fifth, with a 281.85, while Bouchard was 10th, at 257.65. Both divers posted season-best scores in the preliminary program. Bouchard was at 290.60 and Foord scored a 287.
