The Basics
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â FIU swimmers posted four NCAA B-Standard qualifying times in day two of the 2017 Purdue Invitational at the Burke Aquatic Center Friday.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Senior Letizia Bertelli (Cremona, Italy) was the first to swim a B time, with a 54.04 in her 100 Fly preliminary heat, her fastest of the season.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The first points of the meet for day two by an individual were scored by freshman Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada), who placed 11th, and posted the team's best time of 4:20.73 in the 400 IM.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The 100 Breast saw freshman Sara Gyertyanffy (Desenzano, Italy) finish fourth after a prelim swim of 1:01.64, another B-qualifying time, and more than three seconds better than her previous best, and nearly three seconds better than the team's best time in that event so far. Carita Luukkanen (Lambere, Finland) was ninth in the same event, and the final swimmer in the 100 Breast to come in under the B-qualifying standard, at 1:01.98, after swimming a 1:01.97 in a swim-off for heat placement.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The final B-qualifying time for the Panthers came in the form of junior Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana), who swam 54.73 in the final of the 100 Back, after posting a 54.67 time in the preliminaries. Both were B-standard times.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â In the 1-meter springboard program, FIU placed two divers in the finals, with senior Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) finishing sixth, with a finals score of 271.30, a NCAA Zone-qualifying performance. Sophomore Brooke Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada), coming off a season-best performance in the 3-meter Thursday, put up a 258.85 score in the finals on Friday for eighth place.
-       In addition to Hussey's 400 IM result, other Panthers' swimmers who registered points for FIU…
o  Senior Skye Carey (Satellite Beach, Florida / Satellite HS) was 15th in the 200 Free, with a 1:50.14, coming after a 1:48.83 swim in the preliminaries. That is more than three seconds faster than her best time of the season.
o  Taylor Grabenhorst (Orlando, Florida, Timber Creek HS) took 14th in the 100 Breast, by swam a prelim 1:02.70, more than a second and a half faster than her previous-best time this season.

The final day begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, with preliminaries setting up the Finals, which begin with two heats of the mile swim, starting at 6 p.m. EasternÂ
