The Basics
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â FIU swimmers registered three more NCAA B-Standard qualifying times, including a second-place finish in the 100 Free by senior Letizia Bertelli (Cremona, Italy) to complete the 2017 Purdue Invitational at the Burke Aquatic Center Saturday. Nine different times came in under the B-Standard set by the NCAA for the FIU Swimmers for the meet.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â After posting the third-fastest and B-Standard time in the preliminaries, Bertelli shaved just under a tenth of a second in the finals to capture second place and 17 FIU points, the most for an individual in an event for the meet. She swam three different events under the NCAA B-Standard for the meet, most for an FIU swimmer.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Next to post an NCAA B-Standard time was sophomore Carita Luukkanen (Lambere, France), for her second B-Standard time of the weekend. Luukkanen was third in the 200 Breast final, at 2:13.61. She posted B-Standard times in the 100 and 200 Breast in Indiana.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â Â The third and final B-Standard time was the first for the career of freshman Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada), who swam her first sub-two-minute 200 Fly, with a 1:58.96 time for a sixth-place finish in the final. She came in under two minutes in the prelims as well, but topped her time by almost a second when it counted.
-Â Â Â Â Â Â The FIU divers competed in the 10-meter platform for the first time this season, with senior Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) coming in fifth with a score of 235.30, more than 10 points above the Zone-qualifying mark. Redshirt sophomore Brittany Haskell was 11th, with a 210.20, with freshman Rachel Foord (Melbourne, Australia) landing 12th, at 203.35.
