The Basics
- FIU got a double-double from junior Kristian Hudson (Birmingham, Alabama), who scored 27 points and collected 10 rebounds, but visiting Clemson hit a layup at the buzzer to upend the Panthers to finish the FIU Women's Basketball Holiday Tournament Thursday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
- FIU falls to 2-10 on the season, losing six in a row. Clemson is 10-3.
- With the game tied at 65, FIU inbounded the ball with 10 seconds left in front of their bench, but a steal from Francesca Tagliapietra, led to an uncontested layup from Alexis Carter that needed official review to determine that she let go of the ball just before the final tenth of clock-time remaining for the win.
- Leading by eight to start the fourth, FIU shot 3-for-14 in the fourth, exactly as they did in yesterday's 71-68 loss to North Dakota State. Clemson was 9-for-16, for a .563 mark in the final frame. It took more than five minutes for FIU to get a field goal in the fourth, as all 12 fourth-quarter points came from either Hudson or redshirt junior Kiandre'a Pound (Gifford, Florida / Sebastian River HS). They each had six.
- The teams roared out to a scorching first quarter, with the Panthers shooting .467 in the opening period for a 24-20 lead. Still hot from the day before when she scored 27 against North Dakota State in a 71-68 loss, Hudson had 10 quick points in the opening frame.
- The defense turned up the heat in the second, with the teams combining for a .363 shooting mark and just 19 total points. The Tigers led by one at the half, 32-31.
- FIU put together a 10-for-10 quarter from the free-throw line in the third, and outscored Clemson 22-13 in the third to lead 53-45 to start the fourth. FIU has led to start the fourth quarter seven times in 12 games this season.
- Hudson's double-double was her second of the season, tying her career-high with the 10 rebounds. Her 27 points matched her career-best in a non-overtime contest. She was FIUs lone representative on the All-Tournament Team.
- Pound finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. .

From the Sideline
"I feel really badly for these ladies," said FIU Head Coach Tiara Malcom. "They did everything we asked them to do and we came up short. It's hard to see our improvement from the outside, but we are getting better. We just have a few things we need to clean up and I think we can get there as a team."
