Kasandra Castle (Lake Worth, Florida / Palm Beach Central) got the offense started, and a sacrifice fly from catcher
Julia Gilbert (Rialto, California) provided the go-ahead run for FIU softball in a 3-1 win over visiting FGCU in game one of Wednesday doubleheader at Felsberg Field at FIU Softball Stadium.

The Panthers added an insurance run on a bases-loaded wild pitch in the fifth inning to take the game-one victory. FIU is now 35-11 on the season, dropping the Eagles to 21-22.

FGCU scored first in the game on a solo home run by third baseman Brittany McGuire in the top of the fourth.

FIU scored twice in the bottom of the frame. The Eagles outhit FIU 6-3 for the game.

FIU sophomore starting pitcher
Abby Summers improved to 11-0 after tossing five innings. She allowed the one run on five hits and two walks, recording four strikeouts.

Megan Kugelmann (Merritt Island, Florida / Cocoa Beach HS) in the sixth and Kugelmann allowed just one single in the final two frames for her second save of the season. FIU leads Conference USA with seven team saves this season.

Stephanie Texeira (Miami, Florida / Gulliver Prep) tied her career high by drawing three walks in the contest.
