Patino records his fourth career multi-goal game with the Panthers

Game Details
FIU 3, College of Charleston 2
FIU (2-0-2), College of Charleston (2-2)
Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017 | 1 p.m.
Miami, Fla. | FIU Soccer Stadium

The Basics
- The FIU men's soccer team returned to the pitch on Sunday for its second match in less than 48 hours, however didn't show any effects from the quick turnaround as they handed the College of Charleston a 3-2 loss at the FIU Soccer Stadium. The Panthers improve to 2-0-2 on the year while the Cougars even out at 2-2.

- Santiago Patino (Orlando, Fla. / Freedom) got the Panthers on the board first, getting past two College of Charleston defenders and beating Cougars goalkeeper Kevin Shields for the 1-0 lead. It was Patino's third goal of the season in a stretch of four games. He has also recorded at least one point in each game this season.

- After a lightning delay of nearly one hour, both teams resumed play in heavy rain when the Cougars' Khalil Abderahman took a pass from Cornell Holland and fired a shot on goal that deflected off of the hands of FIU goalkeeper Danny Gagliardi (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), then off the post and into the back of the goal in the 45th minute.

- Patino netted his second goal of the day in the 51st minute taking a pass from Donald Tomlinson (Hollywood, Fla./American Heritage) and beating Shields, yet again. His multi-goal performance against the Cougars marked the fourth of his career at FIU.

- Nine minutes later, Inigo Sagarduy (Coral Gables, Fla./Belen Jesuit Prep) scored in the 60th minute off an assist from Alessandro Campoy (Miami, Fla./Imaculate-LaSalle). That goal stood as the game-winner as the College of Charleston's Tucker Heffron took a feed from Matt Nozedar – by way of a corner kick – in the 67th minute to cut the lead to one, however, that was as close as Charleston got.

- Gagliardi registered two saves en route to his first win of the season.

- The Panthers held a 15-10 shot advantage, and doubled up the Cougars, 8-4 in shots on goal.

Stat of the Game
- Patino and teammate Paul Marie (Saint Aubindes Bois, France/5th Ursule) gave the Cougars fits offensively during the afternoon. The duo accounted for nine of the Panthers' 15 shots (Patino 6, Marie 3) and five of their eight shots on goal (Patino 3, Marie 2) in the win.
