Meet Results
FIU 154, Nova Southeastern 108
Dual Meet Records: FIU 7-3. Nova 7-3.
Saturday, January 20, 2018 | 12 noon | North Miami, Fla. | Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center

The Basics

·       FIU took the top spot in 10 of 16 events to defeat Nova Southeastern 154-108 Saturday on Senior Day in women's collegiate swimming at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center. Both programs sit at 7-3 in dual meets as the regular season winds down.

·       The program had a pre-meet sendoff for its nine seniors, who could become the first class to win four-straight conference championships next month.

·       Senior diver Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) posted a season-best 296.55 to win the 1-meter springboard, her fifth score this season eclipsing the NCAA Zone-qualifying standard.

·       Senior Skye Carey (Satellite Beach, Florida / Satellite HS) touched first in the 200 Back, swimming a time of 2:03.11, five seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

·       The meet started with a pair of seniors, Letizia Bertelli (Cremona, Italy) and Ally Mayhew (Dayton, Ohio) teaming up to win the 200 Medley Relay, along with junior Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana) and freshman Sara Gyertyanffy (Desenzano, Italy), with a time 1:43.36.

·       Redshirt sophomore Brittany Haskell (London, Ontario, Canada) won the 3-meter springboard event, with a season-best score of 303.60, her second time this season besting the NCAA Zone-qualifying standard.

·       Freshman Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada) was a top performer for the Panthers, winning two events. In the first individual swim of the afternoon, Hussey blew away the competition in the 1000 Free, nearly 10 seconds better than the field, with a time of 10:20.71. It was her best time in the event since October. Later, she took first in the 400 IM, touching the wall at 4:24.23.

·       Redshirt sophomore Nicole Hunnewell (Miami, Florida / Coral Reef HS) also took two Breaststroke events, winning the 100 at 1:04.47, and 200 with a time of 2:18.65, her second-fastest time at both distances this season.

·       Ruele added to the team's point-total by sprinting faster than the field in the 100 Free, clocking a time of 51.88, her second-fastest of the season.

·       Gyertyanffy also won an individual race, posting a season-fastest mark of 55.61 in the 100 Fly.
