After two off weeks, the FIU Cross Country teams are set to resume competition at the USF Invitational, in what will be their final regular season tune up prior to the C-USA Championships.
The women's race is set to begin at 5:00 p.m., while the gun will go off for the men at 5:45.
In FIU's last meet at the Mountain Dew Invitational,
Sherilene Gelderblom led the Panthers with a 15th place finish, crossing the line in 17:39.67. Anais Da Silva followed close behind, finishing in 17:50.15, good for a 20th place finish. The Panther women finished fifth out of twenty-seven teams in Gainesville.
On the men's side,
Daniel Areces led the Panthers with a 26:54, a 58 second PR.
Eliseo Torrescross the line in 27:11, a 1:37 personal best.
Jorge Areces,
David Suarez, and Christian Alexander rounded out the top five for the Panthers, with each of those runners running their career best time. Suarez lowered his PR from 29:59 to 27:56, while Alexander dropped from 29:56 to 28:34.
This year's USF Invitational will feature 24 teams, the largest field in the history of the meet. Results for Friday's race can be found at
