Morgan Nominated For Wuerffel Trophy

Morgan has tossed 12 touchdown passes this season

MIAMI (Oct. 12, 2018) - On the heels of his impressive season for the FIU football team, quarterback James Morgan has been nominated for the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy.

Since his arrival at FIU, Morgan has not only excelled in between the lines but also in the classroom and South Florida community.

Morgan has set Conference USA a blaze in his first season as the Panther's field general.  The graduate transfer has thrown for 12 touchdowns and 1,057 yards on the year, while completing 60.2% of his passes as well.

Morgan ranks second in the C-USA for touchdown tosses, just three shy of Mason Fine's 15 at North Texas.

Morgan transferred to FIU over the offseason, after graduating at Bowling Green. As a redshirt freshman at Bowling Green, Morgan threw for over 2,000 yards and set a program record with 16 touchdown tosses in only seven starts.

Morgan graduated from Bowling Green with a degree in pre-law, he currently sports a 3.33 GPA in his MBA program at FIU. Following football, Morgan has aspirations to enter law school.

Outside of the football field and classroom Morgan has also set an example in the community as he spends his time at local schools spreading the game of football with Miami's youth. Morgan and his fellow Panther teammates recently volunteered their time at Somerset City Art Conservatory where they played flag football and spoke with the children in attendance. Earlier this season, Morgan and the rest of the football team welcomed students to the first day of school at local Carlos J. Finlay Elementary, which is just down the road from Riccardo Silva Stadium.

Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy Winner, Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy, "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented in Fort Walton Beach, Florida annually to the college football player that best combines exemplary community service with academic and athletic achievement.
