Football Falls Short in VICE Night Battle with Kennesaw Night

FIU fell 45-26 to KSU on Tuesday night; KJ Owens ran for 151 yards

MIAMI — FIU's football program was defeated 45-26 by Kennesaw State at home on Tuesday night in Conference USA (CUSA) action.

Kejon Owens rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers (3-4, 1-2 CUSA), but a strong first half from the Owls (5-2, 3-0) proved to be the difference in FIU's 19-point setback. KSU led 24-14 at the break following a few crucial defensive stands that kept the Panthers from scoring in the first half. FIU cut the score to a one-possession game with 7:57 left in the third quarter, but KSU answered with a long touchdown to close the third, putting the game out of reach.

Keyone Jenkins also had a big day on offense with a season-high 296 passing yards and one touchdown through the air. Anthony Carrie added 44 yards rushing and a 15-yard score as the Panthers racked up 207 rushing yards in the game.

Alex Perry led the receiving effort with 75 yards and seven catches. Eric Nelson scored his first career touchdown late in the fourth quarter, totaling three catches for 39 yards in the game. C'Quan Jnopierre also caught a 64-yard pass to set up the Nelson score in the final minute. On defense, Johnny Chaney Jr. had a career-high 16 tackles. Percy Courtney Jr. and Jessiah McGrew each finished with one tackle for loss.
