LAKEWOOD RANCH, Florida (Oct. 21, 2018) – Returning to the links for the first time in two weeks, the FIU women's golf team shot an opening round of 300 at the Panther-hosted FIU Pat Bradley Invitational.
The Panthers sit in a tie with Gonzaga and Eastern Michigan for sixth place following the opening 18 holes.
Competing as an Individual,
Hannah Leiner had a banner day firing a one-under par 71 to place her in a tie for seventh overall. The sophomore's 71 is the lowest round of her career.
Valentina Gilly had the best team score on Sunday with a 73. Gilly sits in a tie for 17th with 12 other players.
Making her season debut for FIU,
Carolina Rotzinger is tied for 35th following an opening round 73. Rotzinger is also competing as an individual.
Ana Maria Rengifo joins Rotzinger in a tie for 35th after carding a 73 of her own on Sunday.
A pair Panthers are tied for 39th with
Carolina Andrade and
Gabriela Powel both turning in scorecards with opening round of 76s.
The third and final FIU individual,
Diana Velez is tied for 35th after shooting a 77 in her season debut round.
Rounding out the Panther scorecard,
Agueda Cortilla shot a 78 to place in a tie for 57th heading into Monday's second round.
Southern Miss and McNeese State share the team after 18 holes, while USF's Natalia Villavicencio holds a slim one stroke lead over the field.
FIU starts Monday's second round at 8:00 a.m. ET
