KAPOLEI, Hawaii (Oct. 31, 2018) – For the first time since the 2016 FIU Pat Bradley Invitational, the FIU women's golf team are champions. As a team, the Panthers shot a 287 in Wednesday's winner-take-all round at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational after Tuesday's opening day was rained out.
Valentina Gilly and
Carolina Andrade led the Panthers to victory by both firing two-under par 70s. The sophomore duo finished a shot behind Sam Houston State's Hannah Alberto to finish in a tie for second overall.
Agueda Cortilla finished in a tie for 12th after carding a 72 in en route to help secure a Panthers victory.
Hannah Leiner shot a 75 over Wednesday's 18 holes to finish in a tie for 27th.
Rounding out the FIU team scorecard, Ana Maria Renegifo placed in a tie for 48th after shooting a round of 80.
Competing as individuals,
Gabriela Powel shot a 74 to tie for 22nd,
Diana Velez finished in a tie for 48th after turning in a scorecard of 80 and
Carolina Rotzinger placed in tied for 60th after shooting an 83 in Wednesday's round.
NEXT UP
The Panthers golf team will now be off for the better part of three months before returning to the links on Jan. 28 at the Florida Challenge in Tampa.
