BALTIMORE, Maryland (Oct. 6, 2018) – The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award narrowed its 2018 season watch list to 30 of the country's top college quarterbacks, with FIU's
James Morgan making the cut.
Morgan is the only C-USA quarterback to make the list, as he has lit up the league in his first season as the Panthers' signal caller. The graduate transfer has thrown for 12 touchdowns and 1,057 yards on the year, while completing 60.2% of his passes as well.
Morgan ranks second in the C-USA for touchdown tosses, just one shy back of Mason Fine's 13 at North Texas.
Morgan transferred to FIU over the offseason, after graduating at Bowling Green. As a redshirt freshman at Bowling Green, Morgan threw for over 2,000 yards and set a program record with 16 touchdown tosses in only seven starts.
The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is given annually to the nation's top college quarterback, and candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class. Criteria to be considered for the award include character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments.
The winner of the 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award will be honored Dec. 7 at the Embassy Suites Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel & The Grand.
