The Basics
- The FIU men's basketball team recovered from a tough loss on Friday night against Fordham, to improve to 4-1 on the year, with a 98-87 win over Columbia during day two of the Johnny Bach Classic at Fordham's Rose Hill Gym in the Bronx, New York. The Lions drop to 0-3 with the loss.
 
- Brian Beard, Jr. (Rancho Cucamonga, California) recorded his second career double-double with 26 points and a career-high tying 10-assist effort. Beard, Jr. led a total of six players in double-figures, along with Devon Andrews (Lorain, Ohio) who scored 17 points, and Willy Nunez, Jr. (Orlando, Florida) who netted 15 points in the win. Isaiah Banks (Conyers, Georgia) had 13 points, Osasumwen Osaghae (Miami, Florida) had a career-high 12 points, and Trejon Jacob (Raleigh, North Carolina) chipped in with 11 points in the win. Andrews also grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds for his first career double-double in an FIU uniform.
 
- After leading at the half, 43-41, the Panthers poured in 55 points in the second stanza on 47.5 percent (19-for-40) shooting from the field. FIU opened the second half on a 13-3 run to take its first double-figure lead of the game, 56-46, on a layup by Banks with 15:43 left. Columbia battled back to cut the Panthers' lead to one, twice, first 65-64 with 10:50 left, and then 40 seconds later, 68-67, but that would be as close at the Lions got the rest of the way.
 
- FIU finished the game shooting 49.3 percent (34-for-69) from the field, including 37 percent (10-for-27) from behind the three-point arc. The Panthers also outscored Columbia in the transition game, 23-3, and took advantage of the Lions 15 miscues, to the tune of 21 points. 
 
Stat of the Game
FIU's bench outscored the Lions on Saturday night, 44-27, as opposed to getting just 16 points from its reserves on Friday against Fordham.

- Willy Nunez, Jr.'s 15 points marks his seventh double-figure scoring performance in 11 career games for the Panthers.

- Osasumwen Osaghae's 12 points marks his third double-figure scoring performance in his last four games.
