The Basics
- The FIU men's basketball team got a game-high 20 points from Devon Andrews (Lorain, Ohio) and a career-high tying 19 points from Willy Nunez, Jr. (Orlando, Florida) as the Panthers improved to 2-0 on the year with a 117-47 rout of Johnson & Wales, Friday night, at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.

- In addition to Andrews and Nunez, Jr., five other Panthers netted double figures on the night. Brian Beard, Jr. (Rancho Cucamonga, California) dropped in 14 points, Isaiah Banks (Conyers, Georgia) and Antonio Daye, Jr. each scored 12 points, and Osasumwen Osaghae (Miami, Florida) recorded his first double-double with a career-high tying 10-point and career-high 12-rebound effort. Marcus Burwell (Richmond, Virginia) also chipped in with 10 points.

- With FIU leading by two, 8-6, with 16:03 left in the first half, the Panthers proceeded to go on a 22-4 run to take a 30-10 lead, it's first 20-point margin of the contest, with 11:32 left in the first stanza. From then on the flood gates opened as FIU scored 40 out of the next 57 points to take a 70-27 lead into the locker room at the break, and never looked back. During the first 20 minutes FIU shot an impressive 61.5 percent (24-for-39) from the field, while holding the Wildcats to just 28.1 percent (9-for-32) from the floor.

- FIU finished the game shooting 52.6 percent (41-for-78) from the field. The Panthers also outscored Johnson & Wales in the paint, 54-14, and in fast break points, 29-4. In addition, FIU took advantage of 29 Wildcats turnovers scoring 34 points, and tallied 16 points off 19 offensive rebounds.

Stat of the Game
Friday's win over Johnson & Wales was truly a team effort for the Panthers. FIU got 54 points from its starters, which means that when you score 117 points, your bench had a significant impact as well. For the first time in school history, FIU's bench poured in better than 50 points, netting 63 against the Wildcats on the night.

Notable
- Tonight's starters for FIU were: G Trejon Jacob (Richmond, Virginia), G Brian  Beard, Jr., G Marcus Burwell, F, Devon Andrews, and C Elhadji Dieng (Mbour, Senegal) … FIU is 2-0 with this lineup on the year.

- FIU's 117 points marks the second-straight game that the Panthers reached the century mark … The Panthers scored 110 points in the season-opening 110-84 win over Webber International on Nov. 7 … Prior to this season, the last time that an FIU team reached the 100-point mark in regulation was on Feb. 26, 1998, pouring in 101 points against Centenary in a 101-74 win in the TAAC Tournament ... That was the second of two-straight games where the Panthers scored 100-or-more points ... FIU also did it five days before in a 117-79 win on Feb. 26, 1998.

- FIU's 70 first half points was three shy of equaling the school record for points in a half, set against Miami Christian on Dec. 16, 1982, when the Panthers scored 73 points in a 137-54 win … That game against Miami Christian is the game that FIU still holds records for points in a game and margin of victory (+83) ... It's also the largest margin of victory since that game.

- Andrews' 20 points marks his second-straight 20-point performance in his short two-game career with the Panthers … Andrews had a near-perfect night, shooting 8-for-8 from the field, 2-for-2 from behind the three-point arc, and 2-for-4 from the free throw line.

- Beard, Jr.'s 14 points marks his 30th-career double figure scoring game … The California native was 4-for-8 (50.0 percent) from the field on the night and 3-for-4 from behind the three-point arc and the charity stripe (75.0 percent).

- Beard. Jr. also made an impact in other ways on the floor in his 22 minutes … He handed out seven assists and had four steals in the win.

- Burwell was one assist behind Beard, Jr. with six assists.

- Willy Nunez, Jr.'s 19 points marks his fourth double-figure scoring performance in eight career games for the Panthers, and equals his career-high originally set against Florida National on Nov. 29, 2017.
