The Basics
- FIU defeated Florida Atlantic on the road in Boca Raton 179-118 for the final full meet of the regular season Saturday at the FAU Aquatic Center.
- FIU won 11 of the 16 events, including both relays at the meet. The Panthers touched first in both relays, the 200 Medley and 400 Free, with seven different swimmers and two divers winning an individual race for the victory.
- Two swimmers, senior Letizia Bertelli (Traviso, Italy) and freshman Sara Gyertyanffy (Desenzano, Italy) won an individual event and swam a leg in both relay victories.
- Bertelli won event 13, the 100 Fly, beating teammate Stephanie Hussey (Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada) by exactly one second, touching the wall at 56.27. She also swam the third leg of the 200 Medley, helping the squad turn in a 1:44.08 time in that opening event .She also took the second leg of the 400 Free, turning in a 3:31.58 time in that event.
- Gyertyanffy won the 100 Breast in a time of 1:04.08, almost a second and a half faster than the three teammates who finished behind her. She went second in the 200 Medley Relay and swam the first leg of the 400 Free Relay.
- The divers took the top four spots in both programs.
- Freshman Rachel Foord won the 3-meter springboard, with a 314.40 score. Senior Rebecca Quesnel (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) was second, with a season-best score of 302.70. Redshirt sophomore Brittany Haskell (London, Ontario, Canada) was third, at 298.57 and sophomore Brooke Bouchard (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) scored a season-best 296.04 in her program. All four scores were enough to qualify for NCAA Zones.
- Haskell took the top spot in the 1-meter program with a 298.20 score. Quesnel was second again, with a 275.47 score. Foord was third, at 270.75. All three scores are NCAA Zone-qualifying marks.
- The other individual winners are as follows
- Senior Kyna Pereira (Umkomass, South Africa) won the 200 Free, at 1:54.90, two-and-a-half seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
- Redshirt junior Naomi Ruele (Gaborone, Botswana) won the 500 Free, sprinting to a 23.95 result.
- Senior Skye Carey (Satellite Beach, Florida / Satellite HS) raced through the 200 Back field, with a 2:03.65 time, almost six seconds faster than the next swimmer.
- Redshirt sophomore Nicole Hunnewell (Miami, Florida. Coral Reef HS) took the 200 Breast, at 2:19.43, more than eight seconds clear of the next result.
- Sophomore Megan Bowen (Tavistock, England) was first in the 500 Free, almost eight second faster at 5:06.47 than second.

Next up for FIU
The Panther divers will compete against FGCU next Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Coral Springs Aquatic Center. The divers get a last chance to get in another competition on the platform ahead of the Conference USA Championships in two weeks.
