COEUR D'ALENE, ID (Sept. 24) – To open her sophomore campaign, All-Conference USA selection Valentina Gilly shot a 1-over-par 143 over the opening 36 holes to place her in a tied for ninth heading into the final round at the Coeur D'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday.
Gilly, the Caracas, Venezuela native, shot a 73 during the morning round before collecting four birdies and a 70 in the second round.
FIU is in 10th place heading into the final round after totaling a 589 on the opening day of the season.
Carolina Andrade joins Gilly in the Top 20, carding a 144 to stand in a tie for 15th. Andrade's opening round 69 joined Gilly's 70 as the only two under-par rounds on the FIU scorecard.
Agueda Cortilla turned in a 149 to tie for 47th. Junior Ana Maria Rengifo landed in a tie for 76th after shooting a 155 over Monday's two rounds.
Rounding the Panther scorecard, Gabriela Powel will start Tuesday in 85th place after firing a 157.
Lead by individual leader Crystal Wang, Illinois leads the field by 12 shots heading into Tuesday's final round.
