The Basics
- The FIU men's basketball team got a game-high 28 points and 10 assists from
Brian Beard, Jr. (Rancho Cucamonga, California) and 16 points from
Trejon Jacob (Raleigh, North Carolina), but that was not enough as Old Dominion pulled the game out in the final seconds, defeating the Panthers, 75-74, at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center Saturday night.

- With FIU leading by one, 74-73, with 20 seconds remaining, Old Dominion drove the length of the floor where Ahmad Caver had the opportunity to put the Monarchs on top, however missed the layup. Dajour Dickens picked up the offensive rebound and drove to the basket where he hit a twisting layup with 1.1 seconds on the clock for the game-winner, and only his second field goal of the night. The Panthers had an opportunity for a desperation shot, however could not get it off in time. Â

- In addition to Beard, Jr. and Jacob's big numbers,
Osasumwen Osaghae (Miami, Florida) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with nine points and six blocked shots.
Devon Andrews (Lorain, Ohio) added nine points in the loss.

- FIU trailed by as many as 11 points, twice in the first half, with the final 11-point margin, 41-30, coming with 3:20 left before the intermission. After ODU took a 43-37 lead into the locker room at the break, the Panthers came out in the second half and used a quick 6-0 run to tie the game, at 43-all, when Beard, Jr. hit the second of two free throws with 17:54 left. From that point on, neither team would lead by more than five points the rest of the way.

- Both teams shot decently from the field with the Panthers hitting 44.6 percent (25-for-56) from the floor as opposed to ODU's 43.3 percent (29-for-67). FIU shot 40.0 percent (10-for-25) from behind the three-point arc and the Monarchs hit for 36.0 percent (9-for-25). Old Dominion, however, shot 80.0 percent (8-for-10) from the free-throw line, while FIU shot just 53.8 percent (14-for-26). The Monarchs held a 47-30 advantage on the glass, and a 16-6 margin on the offensive boards, leading to 12 second chance points, including the game-winner.

- FIU continued to keep the defensive intensity at a high level, forcing the Monarchs into 21 turnovers on the night which led to 20 points. Â

Osasumwen Osaghae's six blocked shots marks the eighth time in his career that he has rejected four-or-more shots in a game, and the fourth time with five-or-more … Osaghae has swatted 13 shots in his last two games.
- Through tonight's game with Old Dominion, Osaghae has 74 career blocked shots tying him for fifth all-time in school history, joining Taurance Johnson (74, 2001-04).
- In addition, Osaghae's 11-rebound effort tonight against Old Dominion is his fourth double-figure rebounding game of his career.Â
