TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2019) – To open the spring campaign, the FIU women's golf team finished fourth at the rain-shortened Florida Challenge after shooting a single-round 306 on Monday.
Four Panthers finished in the Top 20, led by
Valentina Gilly, who finished in a tie for 10th. The sophomore shot a three-over par 75 over her only 18 holes. In a tie for 13th sits
Hannah Leiner after carding a 76 on Monday.
Carolina Andrade finished in at 17th after shooting a 77. The final piece of the Panther quartet in the Top 20,
Agueda Cortilla shot a round of 78 to place in a tie for 19th.
Rounding out the FIU scorecard,
Gabriela Powel shot an 83 to finish in a tie for 28th.
On the individual side,
Diana Velez claimed the highest finish of any Panther individual by shooting 77 to finish in a tie for 17th.
Carolina Rotzinger placed in a tie for 22nd after shooting her lone round of 79.
Ana Maria Rengifo finished in sole possession of 26th place on Monday by shooting an 81. Making her season debut,
Michelle Rodriguez placed tied for 33rd and shot 85.
USF edged out Miami for the team title, while USF's Ramya Meenakshisundaram tied with UCF's Elizabeth Moon for the individual title.
FIU returns to the links on Feb. 28th at the Moon Golf Invitational hosted by Louisville in Melbourne, Fla.
