MIAMI (Oct. 17, 2019) - The FIU swim and dive team will host the fifth-annual Dual-A-Pool-Ooza on Friday, Oct. 18 welcoming, Rice, Denver and Tulane to the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
"It's a meet that we came up with five years ago and it's great to see it run full circle and come back to FIU," head coach
Randy Horner said. "It is a very original meet, so we are excited to bring these teams in and host them here in Miami."
FIU enters the weekend 1-1 overall, coming off of homecoming weekend after hosting the Blue and Gold Intrasquad meet. This weekend's two-day meet will begin on Friday, Oct.18 at 4:00 p.m. ET and will host two sessions on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 10:00 a.m. ET and at 3:00 p.m. ET.
For the first time, Dual-A-Pool-Ooza will feature a 1200-meter open water event that will replace the 1000 free during the 3 p.m ET session on Saturday. The swimmers will race in the bay that runs parallel to the pool. Ocean Rescue will be on-site to set up the course, placing buoys and markers to identify the 400-meter route teams will take in the water. Each team will have coaches on a kayak for safety purposes, as athletes swim three laps in the 1200-meter event, which will be hand-timed.
Last year at Dual-A-Pool-Ooza, the Panthers picked up a win over Tulane but fell to Rice and Denver. Overall, the Panthers sport a 7-5 record all-time at the tri-meet competition, which began in 2015.
