Columbia, Missouri (Oct. 2, 2019) – Saving the best for last, the FIU women's golf team shaved 10 strokes off its second round score to shoot a 291 on Wednesday and claim fourth place at the Johnnie Imes Invitational.
Agueda Cortilla led a trio of Panthers in the Top-20 finishing tied for fourth after carding her second-straight even-par 72 round of the tournament. The fourth-place finish is a career-best for Cortilla.
Joining Cortilla in the top 10,
Valentina Gilly fired a final round of 71 to claim sole position of 10th place.
Diana Velez matched a career-low tournament scorecard of 224 that included a 72 on Wednesday to place the senior in a tie for 18th.
Hannah Leiner, competing as an individual, rifled a career-low round of 67 to jump 33 spots up the leaderboard and finish the week tied for 22nd.
Gabriela Powel placed in a tie for 54
th after carding a final round of 76 on Wednesday.
Rounding out the Panther scorecard,
Carolina Andrade finished the 54-hole event with a final round 79 to tie for 69th place.
Sarah Bell of Oral Roberts took home the individual title, while host Missouri claimed the team title.
