MIAMI (Dec.17, 2019) - The FIU swim and dive team captured its fifth victory of the season on Tuesday, as the Panthers took down Nova Southeastern, 134-109.
The Panthers are now 5-3 on the season after defeating the Sharks in the pool this morning.
FIU opened up the morning with a win in the 200 medley relay, as the team of
Julia Miranda,
Emily Cordovi,
Taylor Grabenhorst and
Paloma Sanchez took first place with a time of 1:45.58.
In the 200 free,
Stephanie Hussey tapped first with a time of 1:54.03 while
Eriana Temperino was second with a time of 1:55.74. In the 50 back, Miranda picked up a win when she touched at 26.54 and
Michaela Trnkova landed third with her time of 28.21.
Sara Gyertyanffy took first in the 50 breast, with Grabenhorst and Delanie Goll landing the next two spots. The trio had times of 29.49, 30.27 and 30.63, respectively.
Nova picked up their first event victory of the day in the 100 fly, while FIU's Cordovi landed in third with her swim of 57.89. Sanchez tapped third in the 50 free (25.18) and
Alexa Bryant took fifth with her time of 25.38.
In the 100 free, Temperino landed second in the 100 free when she touched at 53.45. Annie Barral and Sanchez both took fourth and fifth in the same event. Miranda went on to win the 100 back (56.61), followed by Trnkova in third place (58.95).
Grabenhorst and Goll took the top two spots in the 100 breast with times of 1:04.75 and 1:07.10, respectively. Hussey landed first in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.04. Followed by a Gyertyanffy second-place finish in the 50 fly (25.78). Gyertyanffy then went on to secure another second-place finish in the 100 IM with her swim of 58.58.
The Panthers ended the action in the lanes with the 200 free relay. Miranda, Cantu, Bryant and Sanchez finished first with a time of 1:37.79.

The Panthers are back in the pool on Jan. 3rd for the Orange Bowl Classic in Key Largo, Florida.
