Panthers Host Lions on Thursday

FIU men’s basketball is back in action with a contest against FMU.

MIAMI (Dec. 18, 2019) – The FIU men's basketball team returns to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center for its final home game of 2019 when the team faces off against Florida Memorial on Thursday, Dec. 19, at 5 p.m. ET.

BY THE NUMBERS
FIU comes into the contest ranked first nationally in blocked shots (73) and blocked shots per game (7.3). The Panthers also placed seventh in the nation for assists per outing (17.8) and eighth for steals per contest (10.3).

Individually, Osasumwen Osaghae comes in second nationally for blocked shots per game (4.20) and total swats (42). The senior also ranks third with a 71.8 shooting percentage.

The men's basketball team also enters the contest 4-0 at home this season. The Panthers have won nine-straight games at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center, dating back to last season, with the previous home loss taking place against Southern Miss on Jan. 31, 2019.

LOOKING AT THE LIONS
Florida Memorial enters the contest with at 3-8 for the season and 1-3 against Sun Conference opponents. The Lions are averaging 82.5 points per game while shooting 44% from the field.

Mubashar Ali leads FMU with 18.5 points per game, while Jordan Martin follows closely behind the junior with 15.8 average. Defensively, Ali paces Florida Memorial with 13.3 rebounds per contest and 1.4 blocked shots per outing.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers took down Kennesaw State on the road 84-81 for the team's fifth-straight victory. Devon Andrews led the FIU squad with 20 points. Osaghae tallied 18 points and four blocks while Dimon Carrigan posted 10 points and eight rebounds.

UP NEXT
The team hits the road for a contest at Stetson on Sunday, Dec. 22, with tipoff slated for 2 p.m. Fans can catch all the action on ESPN+.

ALUMNI GAME
The FIU men's basketball program welcomes back its alumni to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 18, for the Panthers' game against Middle Tennessee. Tipoff from the Conference USA clash is set for 7 p.m. ET. The 2019-2020 campaign marks the 25th anniversary of the banner season, which resulted in the program's first NCAA appearance.
