Panthers Set for Showdown with FGCU

FIU welcomes Florida Gulf Coast to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Wednesday.

MIAMI (Dec. 3, 2019) – The FIU men's basketball team welcomes Florida Gulf Coast for a midweek contest at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. ET with the first 100 FIU students in attendance receiving a free shirt.

Wednesday will also serve as National Cookie Day, with students receiving free Breezeway cookies at the game.

BLOCK PARTY
The Panthers come into the contest with the Eagles as the nation's leader in blocked shots. The squad's 60 swats on the year pace the country with Utah Valley following in second with 54 for the 2019-20 campaign.

Individually, Osasumwen Osaghae ranks second with 34 total blocks for the year and third in the NCAA with 4.25 blocked shots per game. The senior's 164 blocks for his career is second all-time at FIU.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers topped New Hampshire in dramatic fashion on Saturday night, defeating the Wildcats 70-69. Eric Lovett drained a three-pointer with 42.0 seconds left on the clock to tie the game 69-69. Antonio Daye, Jr. drove to the basket and got fouled on the play with 1.4 seconds left on the clock. The sophomore went 1-for-2 from the line, scoring the go-ahead bucket to give the Panthers the 70-69 victory.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Florida Gulf Coast enters the contest at 2-8 this season with a 0-4 record on the road. The Eagles average 60.4 points per game this season, and the team is 37.3% from the field.

Individually, Zach Scott averages 12.2 points per game while Caleb Catto follows closely behind with 10.6 points per outing. Justus Rainwater leads the squad with 7.1 rebounds per game while Dakota Rivers posts 1.7 blocks per game for a squad-best mark.
