Panthers Ready for Battle with Owls

FIU faces Kennesaw State at the KSU Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon.

MIAMI (Dec. 6, 2019) – The FIU men's basketball team hits the road for a weekend contest at Kennesaw State on Saturday, Dec. 7. Tip-off from the KSU Convocation Center is slated for 1 p.m. ET.

BY THE NUMBERS
As a team, the Panthers enter the contest ranked first nationally with 68 total blocks. The team is second in the country, averaging 7.8 blocked shots per game. FIU's 96 total steals is good for third in the nation while the 18.0 assists per game ranks seventh. The squad also comes in eighth for total assists (162) and three-pointer per game (10.4).

Osasumwen Osaghae is second in the nation with 38 total blocks this year, trailing AJ Wilson of George Mason by a pair. The senior's 4.22 swats per game put him in third in the country, and he also ranks fifth nationally with a 71.4% field-goal percentage.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers defeated Florida Gulf Coast 71-53 to move to 4-0 at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center this season. Cameron Corcoran recorded a career-best five three-pointers to earn 15 points off the bench during the win. Osaghae finished with a double-double, recording 14 points and 11 rebounds. Trejon Jacob was the third FIU player who scored in double-figures, tallying 11 points for the Panthers.

SCOUTING THE OWLS
Kennesaw State is searching for its first victory this season. The Owls are 0-7, and the team is averaging 52.0 points per contest while shooting 32.9% from the field.

Individually, Tyler Hooker leads the KSU squad with 31 points per outing. The guard is shooting 28.4% from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc. Antonio Spencer comes into the game with a team-high six blocked shots during his seven starts this year.

ALUMNI GAME
The FIU men's basketball program welcomes back its alumni to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday, January 18, for the Panthers' game against Middle Tennessee. Tipoff from the Conference USA clash is set for 7 p.m. ET. The 2019-2020 campaign marks the 25th anniversary of the banner season, which resulted in the program's first NCAA appearance.
