FIU Hosts Charlotte for Home Finale

Tipoff against the 49ers is set for 2 p.m. ET


MIAMI (March 1, 2019) – The FIU women's basketball team will host Charlotte on Saturday as the Panthers play the final home game of the 2018-19 season at 2 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME AGAINST CHARLOTTE
FIU fell 80-57 last time against Charlotte on Feb. 4, 2018 in Charlotte, North Carolina. FIU was led by Alexis Gordon who scored 24 points for the Panthers. Nyilah Jamison-Myers posted 17 points for the 49ers victory.

SCOUTING THE 49ERS
The 49ers are 15-11 overall and 7-7 in C-USA play with their last win coming against Old Dominion (69-59). Charlotte has been led by Jade Phillips who is averaging 12.0 points per game.

C-USA HONORS
Freshman Ce'Nara Skanes earned the Conference USA Honor Roll accolade after her performance this past week for FIU. Skanes scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Panthers past Florida Atlantic on Feb. 23, with a 56-49 victory.

ROARY MCSCOARY
FIU scored a season-high 82 points at home on Jan.17,2019. The last time the Panthers scored more than 82 points was against FAU on Feb. 17, 2018 when they beat the Owls 86-65.

DOUBLE TROUBLE
FIU has had two players post double-doubles this season, with Ce'Nara Skanes owning seven and Chelsea Guimaraes earning one.

SKANES CONTROLLING THE GLASS
Freshman Ce'Nara Skanes has controlled the glass this season, ranking 4th in the conference for rebounds as she is averaging 7.7 per contest. Among C-USA freshmen, only Old Dominion's Ajah Wayne (7.7) averages more rebounds per game than Skanes. 

HERE WE GO, 2018-19
FIU earned an 8-21 record last season, but it was much improved from 2016-17's mark of 5-24. The Panthers also improved their C-USA mark from 3-15 in 2016-17 to 5-11 in 2017-18.

WHAT COMES BACK
The Panthers will welcome back three players who logged minutes last season, with TaMiracle TaylorCabria Lee and Shante Walker returning for the 2018-19 season.

NEWCOMERS
FIU will welcome seven newcomers to the roster this season, with four juniors and three freshmen making up the seven total.

MRS. WORLDWIDE
FIU sports four international players on this season's roster, with three players from Europe and one from north of the border.

TEMPORADA TRES
The Panthers will officially enter season three under the direction of head coach Tiara Malcom.

GOING UP
Under the guidance of Tiara Malcom, FIU has improved its win total each season. The eight victories last season were also the most by any Panther basketball squad since the 2013-14 season.

The Panthers head to Huntington, West Virginia on Thursday, March 7 to face the Marshall Thundering Herd to cap the 2018-19 season. The game is set for 6 p.m. ET.
