MIAMI (March 7, 2019) - FIU Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment
Pete Garcia announced the hiring of
Damione Lewis as Assistant Athletic Director on Thursday. Lewis spent 10 years playing in the NFL.

Damione Lewis' knowledge and accomplishments to your department, you set yourself up for future success."
The former NFL standout, who has past ties to Davis, will focus on player development and community relations for the football team among his other duties.

Butch Davis said. "Damione has an enormous amount of respect as a former NFL player, while possessing a great character and excellent work ethic. He will have a lot of experience to share with all of our student-athletes on campus and it's awesome to have him here with us."

The former Miami Hurricane was selected 12th overall in the 2001 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams, after being coached under the tutelage of Davis at UM. Lewis collected 262 career tackles, 23.5 sacks and four forced fumbles while in the NFL and having played for the Rams, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots and Houston Texans.

Entering its 18th year of football in 2019, the FIU Panthers are coming off a program-best nine wins a season ago. FIU capped 2018 with a 35-32 victory over Toledo in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl to finish the season 9-4 overall. Under legendary head coachÂ
Butch Davis, the Panthers have earned back-to-back bowl appearances and 17 wins in the last two years.
