MIAMI (May 1, 2019) – FIU men's basketball head coach
Jeremy Ballard has announced another addition to the Panthers' basketball program with the signing of 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard Blake Furcron (Romulus, Michigan/Pratt Community College/Walsh University/Elyria HS) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI). Furcron, who will enter FIU as a redshirt junior and will have two years of eligibility left, joins 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard/forward Eric Lovett (Jonesboro, Georgia/Missouri State University West Plains/Jonesboro HS), who signed earlier this week, and 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard/forward Dante Wilcox (West Palm Beach, Florida/Oxbridge Academy) who signed his NLI in November. The trio is expected to make an immediate impact upon their arrival for the 2019-20 season.
"We are beyond excited to warmly welcome Blake to the FIU family," said Ballard. "Blake is an extremely talented and versatile player who comes from a highly respected Junior College program. Coach (Sean) Flynn and his staff (at Pratt) have done a remarkable job with Blake's development and his game soared while there. Blake's blend of athleticism, skill, versatility and character will seamlessly mesh with our system."
As a redshirt sophomore at Pratt Community College, in Pratt, Kansas, Furcron led the Beavers in scoring averaging 17.4 points-per-game. He was third on the team in field goal shooting percentage, hitting 50.9 percent of his shots, and second in three-point shooting netting 43.5 percent from behind the arc. In addition, he hit 74.5 percent of his offerings from the free-throw line, good enough for fifth on the team. Furcron tallied double figures in 26-of-32 games for Pratt, including 13 games of 20 points-or-more and 30-plus points twice. He was also tied for first on the team in rebounding, grabbing 5.7 boards-per-outing, and fourth in assists dishing out 1.4 per contest.
Furcron started his collegiate career at Walsh University, an NCAA Division II school in North Canton, Ohio, where he was second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 points-per-game and fourth in rebounding grabbing 4.0 per-outing.
