@FIUHoops Signs Second JUCO All-American in Tevin Brewer

Brewer helped guide Coffeyville CC to the NJCAA National Semifinals during the 2018-19 campaign.

MIAMI (May 31, 2019) FIU men's basketball Head Coach Jeremy Ballard has announced another signee for his second recruiting class, and another junior college All-American, with the addition of 5-foot-8, 160-pound point guard Tevin Brewer (Fort Smith Arkansas/Coffeyville Community College/Eastern Oklahoma State College/Northside Senior HS) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI).

Brewer, who will enter the 2019-20 campaign as a junior, joins 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard Blake Furcron (Romulus, Michigan/Pratt Community College/Walsh University/Elyria HS), who signed in early May, 6-foot-5, 200-pound guard/forward Eric Lovett (Jonesboro, Georgia/Missouri State University West Plains/Jonesboro HS), who signed in late April, and 6-foot-6, 220-pound guard/forward Dante Wilcox (West Palm Beach, Florida/Oxbridge Academy) who signed his NLI in November. The quartet is expected to make an immediate impact upon their arrival for the 2019-20 season.

"Panther Nation is thrilled to welcome Tevin Brewer to the FIU basketball family," said Ballard. "Tevin is coming off a fantastic season with the prestigious program from Coffeyville Community College in which he led them to 31 wins and an appearance in the NJCAA National Semifinals. This remarkable team's success also resulted in Tevin being named to the NJCAA All-America team. His speed, shooting ability, toughness, and leadership will be a vital part of what we are building here at FIU. Tevin's will to win and character have helped set him apart and he will be a perfect fit for our program."

As a sophomore, last season at Coffeyville, Brewer helped guide the Ravens to a spectacular 31-4 record and a stellar 20-2 mark in the Kansas Jayhawk College Conference, as they advanced to the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) National Semifinal game. Coffeyville spent the entire season ranked in the NJCAA Top 10 and were ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation. Brewer averaged 11.8 points-per-game, shot 45.1 percent from the field, 41.1 percent from behind the three-point line, and an impressive 92.2 percent from the free-throw line. He also averaged 4.0 assists-per-game, grabbed 3.0 rebounds-per-outing and logged 1.7 steals-per-contest. He scored in double figures in 21 games, including a season high 30 points.

For his efforts, Brewer was named to the NJCAA All-Region team, while also joining fellow Panthers' signee, Eric Lovett, as an NJCAA Third Team All-American. He is the third consecutive point guard to be named an All-American at Coffeyville.

Brewer began his junior college career at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, Oklahoma, where he averaged an impressive 27.0 points-per-game while shooting 44.3 percent from the field, 37.4 percent from behind the arc and 80.5 percent from the charity stripe. He also dished out 5.9 assists-per-contest and grabbed 3.1 boards-per-outing. In addition, he poured in double figures in all 27 games he has played in, including 20-or-more 20 times and 30-plus points 10 times, including a career-high 43 points against Western Oklahoma State College.
