MIAMI (June 13, 2019) – FIU volleyball and beach volleyball Head Coach Rita Buck-Crockett announced the addition of Myrthe Maring (Groningen, Netherlands/LIU Brooklyn/Half Hollow Hills East). Maring, who will play both indoor volleyball and beach volleyball, is expected to make an immediate impact during the 2019 indoor and 2020 beach volleyball campaigns.

"Myrthe Marring comes from a long line of volleyball players," said Buck-Crockett. "She is going to add to the experience that we have already, and are bringing in. She is also going to bring size and power to us with her 6'3" frame and we are looking forward to a great season."

Maring, a 6-foot-3 sophomore who played middle blocker at LIU Brooklyn last season, helped the Blackbirds to a 15-9 overall record, an impressive 12-2 ledger in Northeast Conference (NEC) play, and an appearance in the NEC Tournament semifinals. Maring finished her freshman year second on the team, and fourth in the NEC, in blocks with 57 (0.98 bps) while also recording 90 total kills (1.55 kps), good enough for sixth on the team.

Maring earned NEC Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8, after she proved to be a force at the net in two wins improving first place LIU Brooklyn to 6-0 in Conference play. Maring averaged 1.67 blocks per set with a total of 15 over nine sets played. She recorded eight blocks in a four-set triumph against Robert Morris (Oct. 6) which is an average of two per set.

Maring played the last two seasons of her scholastic volleyball at Half Hollow Hills High School East in Dix Hills, New York. She was a two-year letter winner for the Thunderbirds where she earned All-County as a middle blocker her junior year. Maring was then named Most Valuable Player as a senior. She played her club volleyball for Academy Red 18, reaching the Junior National Championships in back-to-back years.

Maring's sister, Sanne, is a standout volleyball player at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, and her father, Marten, played for the Dutch National Men's Youth Team.
